The Community Technology Empowerment Project will place 45 full-time AmeriCorps members annually from Sept 4, 2012 to Aug 31, 2015 in community agencies in Minnesota (Twin Cities) and California (San Francisco Bay Area). Members will develop technology programming and teach computer skills that build employment skills, and serve low-income communities, new Americans and persons with disabilities. At the end of the three year period, 5400 participants will have received job placement training, over 2415 will have documented improvement in technology skills, and a minimum of 1425 will have gained employment as a result of CTEP members' technology training. Each year, a minimum of 30 community agencies will receive capacity building services as a result of the member's involvement, including: more efficient volunteer practices, organizational improvements from community assessments, and additional activities such as new classes or programs. This project will focus on the CNCS focus areas of Economic Opportunity and Capacity Building. The CNCS investment of $1,795,497 over three years will be matched with $1,521,000 in local funds.
