Urban Teacher Center
Urban Teacher Center (UTC) proposes to place 95 full time service members in Baltimore City and District of Columbia (DC) public schools in 2012-2013 to improve student achievement as teachers in a Professional Corps program, with 75 of those teachers in high need schools. These service members will leverage 285 volunteers for school and community events. Through a comprehensive program guaranteed to produce student learning gains, service members will complete over 1,900 hours of direct service or preparation for direct service during the service year. At the end of the one-year period, UTC aims to have served over 5,500 students throughout the Baltimore and DC areas. These children will have made minimum academic gains of 12-18 months progress -- significantly more than they currently make. The CNCS investment of $237,500 will be matched with $7,671,432, of which 81% has already been secured. Increasing numbers of service members will serve in 2013-2015.
