Center for Interfaith Cooperation is requesting the support of 10 AmeriCorps members to establish the Immigrant and Refugee Service Corps (IRSC) program. The IRSC program will mobilize community support to increase services, build capacity and strengthen the network of service providers addressing the needs of our immigrant and refugee population. The first year of this project will begin September 2012 with an intensive three week training and orientation and end in August 2013. Anticipated outcomes include: increased services provided to families along with a 25% increase in volunteerism, a functioning Coalition for Immigrant Services will form with representatives from 6 local agencies, 100 families will report better access to health care information, and 50 refugee families will indicate that they are better able to thrive in their new communities after working directly with a trained volunteer. This project will focus on CNCS focus areas of education. The CNCS investment of $130,000 is requested for a Full-time Fixed Amount grant.
