A team of 15 AmeriCorps members selected from a pool of formerly-incarcerated persons will serve offenders returning to Marion County, Indiana. The members will provide services that include personal instruction, guidance and support to assist offenders to overcome reentry-related obstacles. We also will provide coaching and technical assistance to reentry-related service providers in the Marion County area. Our first goal at the end of the one-year period is to increase the number of offenders participating in reentry preparation programming, reentry services, and composing a self-authored reentry plan. Our second goal is to establish a service provider coalition that will meet a minimum requirement for services available and also create a process for evaluating these services. Overall, our long-term goal is to have an impact on reducing the recidivism rate in this community. Specifically, this project will focus on the CNCS focus area of Public Safety: Adult Offender/Ex-offender Services/Rehabilitation. The project will begin in September 2012.
