The GRID Alternatives AmeriCorps Program will deploy 21 AmeriCorps members, who will leverage an additional 3,000 community volunteers per year, to provide solar power and job training in low-income communities throughout the state of California. Members will be based at existing GRID Alternatives offices in the Central Coast, Central Valley, Greater Los Angeles, Inland Empire, North Valley, San Diego, and San Francisco Bay Area regions of the state. At the end of the three-year AmeriCorps grant period, GRID Alternatives will have provided solar power to 3,000 low-income households - approximately 12,000 individuals - and job training to 4,500 economically disadvantaged individuals statewide. This project will focus on the CNCS focus areas of Economic Opportunity, Environmental Stewardship, and Capacity Building. The CNCS investment of $273,000 per year will be matched with $632,266 per year of committed external funds.
