This grant requests 10 AmeriCorps members to serve as "coaches" in Admission Possible's College Program. These members will lead low-income college students through a comprehensive curriculum designed to help students establish a solid academic, social and financial literacy foundation, form meaningful connections with their colleges, and track their progress toward degree completion and workforce readiness. Coaches reach students through a combination of in-person meetings in the Twin Cities metropolitan area and technology-based mediums such as texting, e-mail, facebook, and other Web 2.0 tools. This project will focus on the CNCS focus area of Education. The proposed program activities will start August 20, 2012 and end August 20, 2013. At least 550 students will be served by the AmeriCorps College Coaches. Of that group, at least 450 will enroll in college, and at least 75 students will earn a post-secondary degree.
