College Access Now
Now in our seventh year, College Access Now has successfully guided 379 seniors through the college application and financial aid processes. With the help of our AmeriCorps members, 100% of these students earned college acceptance. AmeriCorps members have facilitated this work and CAN has a proven track record of 100% fill and retention of AmeriCorps members. CAN currently serves high school juniors and seniors in three Seattle high schools and will be serving five Seattle high schools beginning in the fall of 2012. In addition, CAN serves hundreds of students through our College Persistence Program. 20 AmeriCorps members will facilitate our college readiness and persistence program from September of 2012 through July of 2013. 16 members will work in the Seattle public high schools CAN serves. The additional four members will work with our college students and will be based in our central offices. This project will focus on the WCNCS area of Education. The WCNCS investment of $233,380 will be matched with one million dollars. OUTCOMES: CAN will have a presence in six Seattle Public High Schools and all 270 high school seniors served (>97%) will have received at least one acceptance letter to college and all 210 high school juniors served (>85%) will have completed critical interim deliverables, including campus visits, campus lists and draft essays. Over 85% of students, once enrolled in college, will either persist towards their degree or have achieve college graduation within six years.
