Inner-City Teaching Corps of Alain Locke Initiative
Commission AmeriCorps State Fixed Amount Grants FY 2012
The ICTC AmeriCorps grant proposal seeks to support 45 MSY AmeriCorps to work with students affected by the achievement gap, which is focused on children who are low-income, minority students attending under-resourced traditional and charter public schools throughout Chicago. Inner-City Teaching Corps (ICTC) is an elite teaching corps of future leaders working to close the achievement gap in Chicago's high needs schools. ICTC recruits top recent college graduates and accomplished career changers to commit to teaching for two years in Chicago's urban schools. Extending AmeriCorps membership to our professional corps members will positively impact our ability to impact our key performance measures: 1)Increasing student achievement by 1.5 years growth in literacy and/or 80% content mastery; and 2) creating a sustainable pipeline of future educational leaders, which is marked by >85% of corps members remaining in the classroom beyond their two-year commitment. This project will focus on the CNCS focus area of education. The CNCS investment of $36,000 will be matched with $ 601,640 by the ICTC.
