Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence
During FY 2012 -- FY 2014 the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence's (ICADV) Skylark AmeriCorps Program will recruit and place ten formerly battered women each year to be AmeriCorps members, trained to serve as economic justice specialists. As members they will improve their own lives by connecting with their community, building economic independence and gaining opportunities for marketable skill development and education. Ten host sites will be selected from among the 28 domestic violence agencies in Iowa that serve all 99 counties of the state. These ten AmeriCorps members will annually leverage a combined 100 volunteers to complete service projects for domestic violence service agencies. At the end of the three year period, the ten host sites will have provided financial literacy training and advocacy to over 600 survivors of domestic violence and built a solid volunteer base. This project will focus on the CNCS focus area of creating economic opportunities. The CNCS investment of $115,050 will be matched with $94,520 from AmeriCorps host sites.
