A. Executive Summary:
Washington Service Corps (WSC) is an intermediary organization offering program innovation, high standards of project management and the ability to support national service projects reaching the state's economically disadvantaged. 565 full-time AmeriCorps members will serve in 310 urban and rural public and private nonprofit agencies in team and individual placement settings while leveraging 40,000 community volunteers to expand their service. The program will begin September 1, 2012 and by its conclusion on August 31, 2013, the following outcomes will be accomplished: through addressing CNCS focus areas, 4,900 students will improve academic engagement as a result of tutoring and mentoring; 2,100 individuals will increase awareness of environmentally-conscious practices through participation in environmental education; 30,000 will increase their ability to respond in the event of a disaster due to disaster preparedness training; 1,750 will increase knowledge of healthy behaviors through participating in health education programs; and 250 veterans and military family members will experience increased engagement in communities as a result of their involvement with AmeriCorps-supported home construction and other service projects. The CNCS investment of $7,345,000 will be matched by $2,237,594.
