AmeriCorps National Fixed Amount Grants FY 2012
The AIDS United (formerly National AIDS Fund) AmeriCorps Program was the first National Direct AmeriCorps program solely dedicated to HIV/AIDS. Since 1994, nearly 650 AIDS United (AU) AmeriCorps members have served in our distinguished program that provides urgently needed HIV/AIDS prevention, education, care, and support services to youth and adults around the country. The program provides real-world skills-building experiences that prepare the next generation of public health leaders. AIDS United's goal is to have 54 AmeriCorps members leverage an additional 700 volunteers to provide HIV/AIDS prevention, education, testing, and client supportive services in eight Operating Sites: Albuquerque/Santa Fe, NM; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; Detroit, MI; Indianapolis, IN; Baton Rouge, LA; New Orleans, LA; and Washington, DC. At the end of the grant period, August 1, 2012 -- July 31, 2015, we anticipate that our members will have provided prevention outreach services to 12,000 individuals, prevention education presentations to 30,000 individuals, health care access services to 6,000 individuals, and client support services to 12,000 individuals; conducted 19,500 HIV tests, recruited and coordinated 2,100 volunteers; and reported increased competence in team leadership and professional skills. Our program aligns with the CNCS Healthy Futures focus area. The CNCS investment of $702,000 will be administered as a Fixed-Amount grant which does not require a match.
