University of Notre Dame
In the University of Notre Dame's ACE program, 138 AmeriCorps members will serve as teachers of record in over 100 under-resourced urban and rural schools in 12 states and the District of Columbia. These members--talented college graduates enrolled in ACE's accredited Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree program--fulfill specific requests from schools struggling to attract highly qualified educators to teach predominantly low-income, frequently minority students. Each year, approximately 90 ACE AmeriCorps members graduate after completing two years of service and meeting their degree requirements, with most staying in education. ACE addresses the CNCS goal to ensure high quality educational and behavioral outcomes for students from disadvantaged communities by providing a highly qualified, rigorously trained corps of teachers to serve the critical shortage of education professionals in high needs areas. The requested CNCS investment of $207,000 will be matched with $3,593,725.
