Blueprint Schools Network
The Blueprint Fellows Program ("the Program") will enlist AmeriCorps members to serve as full-time tutors ("Fellows") in historically low-performing urban public schools in Denver, CO and Houston, TX.
The Program is a research-based component of a comprehensive school turnaround effort facilitated by Blueprint Schools Network ("Blueprint") and our partner school districts. This project is designed to accelerate student achievement and build a human capital pipeline in high-need schools. Fellows will deliver 5-6 strategically planned lessons in math or literacy to 2-3 students per period throughout the school day. As integral members of the school community, Fellows will collaborate with school staff, communicate with students' families, and coordinate community-wide service projects. The Program will begin in August 2012 and end in July 2015.
Blueprint is requesting 266 AmeriCorps members each year who will leverage an additional 300 volunteers to support the work of improving school culture and student achievement. At the end of the 3-year grant period, Blueprint anticipates an average improvement of greater than one year's growth in achievement in tutored subjects for participating students each year, thereby putting students on track for postsecondary success. The Program supports the CNCS focus area of Education. The CNCS investment of $1.33 million annually will improve the quality and scope of the service delivered to students and support Blueprint's efforts to engage the community in this work. Blueprint and our partner school districts are committed to raising the additional funding necessary to implement the Program.
