College Success Foundation
This proposed project aligns with the CNCS focus area of Education and addresses postsecondary education preparation and success among economically disadvantaged middle school students. Twenty AmeriCorps members will work in 19 middle schools in Washington State (17 members) and the District of Columbia (3 members) as College and Career Advising Corps (CCAC) Coaches. They will collaborate with counselors, teachers, parents and existing College Success Foundation (CSF) school-based staff to provide college access/readiness support for low-income students and to increase each school's college-going culture. Washington State students are part of the statewide College Bound Scholars program; in both locations they may also be participants in CSF's HERO (Higher Education Readiness Opportunity) program. At the end of the three-year grant period 13,500 students will complete the CCAC program; 85% of those who complete will show increased college/career knowledge and postsecondary aspirations. The CNCS investment of $260,000 will be leveraged by $473,000 of projected match resources.
