60 AmeriCorps members in the Arab American Resource Corps (ARC) will leverage an additional 1,200 volunteers to support the members in economic opportunity and education in San Francisco, CA, Philadelphia, PA, New York, NY, Dearborn, MI, Flint, MI, Chicago, IL, Anaheim, CA, Houston, TX, Atlanta, GA, Cleveland, OH, Orlando, FL, and Lackawanna, NY. The program will focus on adult education, including English as a Second Language (ESL) and financial literacy; job placement services; youth tutoring; and volunteerism with high school youth. The program will run from August, 26, 2012 to August 25, 2015. At the end of the three year period, students in adult education classes will have greater English proficiency, increased financial literacy and increased employability skills; economically disadvantaged individuals will obtain employment; K-12 children will have improved academic engagement; and Arab American community organizations will have built their capacity to connect community volunteers to high school students exploring their post-graduation opportunities. The CNCS investment of $774,000 will be matched with $701,173.
