Dime Child Foundation
FY 2012 National Day of Service and Remembrance Grants
Dime Child Foundation's Supporting Our Soldiers (S.O.S.) Program is a program informing and engaging youth. The S.O.S program efforts serve the north central regional cluster including geographic areas of, IL, IN, MI, MN, WI, ND and OH. We expect to engage approximately 200 volunteers by using the current TRIO network of programs that serve youth and veterans on college campuses and communities.
The S.O.S' program overall objectives are to utilize youth to highlight and create a vehicle of remembrance through national service. Youth will plan and execute events and activities that will strengthen and engage target communities by fostering civic participation through service and volunteering.
The key strategies of the S.O.S program is to partner with existing networks that also have youth programs servicing at-risk youth and drop-outs. S.O.S program model is designed to work collaboratively with youth and volunteers on community service projects to remember and commemorate fallen soldiers, community supporters, military families, veterans, and those who rose in service during the 9/11 attacks. Strategically expanding the program to the national level by presenting Dime Child's S.O.S program educational curriculum model to Upward Bound directors of youth and veteran programs.
Dime Child has innovated a curriculum to include the changes within policy and daily life post 9/11. The 9/11 curriculums will be developed over 1 year then expanded and executed at target schools for Upward Bound programs.
