FY 2012 National Day of Service and Remembrance Grants

Executive Summary

911-HOME BASE, HOME TOWN: BE READY! FY 2012 SEPTEMBER 11th NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE AND REMEMBRANCE PLANO COMMUNITY HOME SPONSOR, INC. Our program encompasses strategies in Tier One and Tier Two. It is a simple idea that came together with three National partners (American Red Cross, FEMA, and ServPro), Plano Community Home Sponsor, Inc., local churches, VFW post 2205, returning Veterans and their families, school students, the elderly and disabled, and first responders including some from 9/11/2001. All funds will go directly to purchasing supplies for the Go-Kits, a home version of an emergency preparedness kit created by the Red Cross. Everything else is being donated, either in cash or In Kind from man hours, food, and waived rentals on rooms, to donated material. Our last part is the training. The American Red Cross is providing training materials, ServPro is providing staff to train along with FEMA beginning 8/2012 before any Go-Kits go out, then throughout the entire grant process through 9/2014. We have commitments for over 130 volunteers for (2) 4 hour shifts each the weekend of September 8 and 9, 2012. We will then have a large celebration on 9/11 including the media and politicians to honor our Veteran's, first responders and our seniors. The first year we will cover 3 counties. The second year we will add 2 counties with statewide training and a National article. We plan to expand this project annually.
