TUESDAY'S CHILDREN, SEPTEMBER 11TH NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE AND REMEMBRANCE
With CNCS funding, Tuesday's Children will continue our committed work to support families impacted by the 9/11 attacks by expanding current activities around the anniversary of 9/11 and implementing new services to increase annual participation in the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance. Current annual services include: commemorative ceremonies; service-learning projects to help other communities in need; support services for bereaved 9/11 families and WTC rescue and recovery workers and their families; engagement events for active-duty and retired military personnel and their families; and volunteer activities that connect our service population to their communities. This funding will provide a greater degree of support to veterans and families, a population we are now engaging with. It will connect these individuals, who answered a call of duty after the 9/11 attacks, with individuals at home directly impacted by the event. We expect to engage approximately 850 individuals in service and remembrance activities around the 11th anniversary from 31 U.S. states, primarily in the Atlantic Cluster. We anticipate that our successful methodology of healing through community will have a profoundly positive impact on the readjustment process when a service member returns from military action. We will never forget the lives lost, those who grieve, and those who responded both domestically and in recent U.S. military operations.
