Service For Peace
FY 2012 National Day of Service and Remembrance Grants
Service for Peace is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to involving volunteers in ongoing community development programs throughout the world. Our programs are designed to further the growth and development of individuals and communities through the shared experience of voluntary service. For this 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance, our organization plans to honor and serve the first responder teams at 100 firehouses, as well as educate the community about fire safety in the event of a disaster. In 50 cities, in twelve states, namely Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, over 2,500 volunteers will be mobilized to show their pride in their communities--much like what happened in the week and months following the 9/11 tragedies -- and to support and honor the firefighters who serve their communities. This project will allow volunteers the opportunity to work alongside men and women firefighters thereby gaining a firsthand understanding of their heroic efforts and of the courage and dedication that were displayed on 9/11.
