BOOTS TO SHOES FOUNDATION (BTS) MENTORING TRANSITIONING VETERANS PROGRAM
"Helping 21st Century Veterans Capture 21st Century Jobs" The program pairs volunteer mentors from community businesses with veterans who are transitioning from military service to civilian careers. The proposed program is to expand the services to more veterans around Olympia, Tacoma, Bremerton, Everett, and Seattle, WA and then to develop a plan for Spokane WA, and other states with military installations. Goals include engaging 300 volunteer business mentors, advising veterans of the service, collecting application information to aid in geographic pairing of mentors and mentees, and recruiting qualified veterans to become mentors. In addition, mock interviews with community business people will be held for veterans. Another focus will be an event around the Sept. 11th National Day of Service: bringing back a performance of Interrupted Narratives/WAR, which honors our fallen NW soldiers and inspires community volunteers. Throughout the year, outreach events for enrolling veterans and engaging volunteers are scheduled. Standardizing processes for mentor/mentee pairing, collecting measurements, and refining policies and procedures will enable reliable replication of these services in other geographic areas. Corporate and individual donations will supplement grant funds.
