North Carolina Campus Compact (Elon University)
FY 2012 National Day of Service and Remembrance Grants
North Carolina Campus Compact (NCCC) requests $56,334 to support HEROES -- Higher Education Remembering and Expanding Service -- increasing college student volunteers while impacting community needs, remembering the events of September 11, 2001, and promoting interfaith cooperation. NCCC will subgrant to Campus Compact offices in FL, KY, SC, and WV that will provide mini-grants to member institutions in their states. NCCC will provide mini-grants directly to AL, GA, MS, NC, and VA Compact members. The potential applicant pool is 190 institutions. Mini-grantees will implement service projects on or near the Day of Service in three focus areas: 1) disaster services, 2) veterans and military families and 3) healthy futures, with preference given to applicants facilitating projects in the first two. Grantees will host a remembrance activity, recruit student veterans, partner with national service organizations and participate in a collective food drive with a prize for the most items collected. HEROES will mobilize over 6300 volunteers.
Social media will provide technical assistance and highlight project activities. Accomplishments will be measured with mid-term and final reports. Two campuses will receive prizes in best photo and video technology contests, highlighting service activities.
