FY 2012 National Day of Service and Remembrance Grants
The Ford County Volunteer Center/RSVP is the local volunteer connector for Dodge City, Ford County Kansas. Our mission is to promote volunteerism in the community through skill-based, disaster response, diversity-focused and cause leadership volunteering.
The Ford County Volunteer Center/RSVP is requesting $40,883 To support three (3) new and exciting initiatives . Plus, 75 volunteers producing 1,500 hours of service the first year.
Our grantee, Dodge City Community College, is currently in the application process to access resources to build a monolithic dome on their Campus which will be structurally able to withstand tornadoes. It is planned that the Ford County Emergency Communications office will be housed in this building, along with college offices. In the disaster readiness plan the Ford County Volunteer Center is to be manager for unaffiliated volunteers.
Current and former military veterans and their families receive assistance through the Volunteer Center addressing their job search, community involvement and networking needs. The Volunteer Center also coordinates efforts to collect and send donated items to deployed soldiers.
A local car dealership has donated a van to be used by volunteers in transporting veterans to medical appointments at the VA hospital in Wichita as well as scheduled trips to the commissary at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita
