Pints for Patriots
The Pints for Patriots Pilot Program, developed by United Way of Greenville County's AmeriCorps program in 2011 to honor those who sacrificed as a result of the September 11th attacks, engaged over 800 volunteers who donated much-needed pints of blood to area blood banks. In 2012, the United Way Association of South Carolina (UWASC) seeks to partner with United Way of Greenville County, other local United Ways, SC AmeriCorps programs, area blood banks, and veteran organizations in order to expand the Pints for Patriots Pilot Program into a state-wide effort. With the help of our community partners, UWASC will seek to engage 9,011 volunteers/donors over a two-year period. In addition to engaging thousands of volunteers who will address shortages in area blood banks, the 2012/2013 Pints for Patriots initiative will also be used to conduct outreach to the returning veteran community. The media exposure of Pints for Patriots will offer a unique opportunity for South Carolina to welcome back our returning vets and to make sure they are well-informed of the opportunities they have to reinvest themselves in their communities through National Service and volunteer opportunities.
