FY 2012 National Day of Service and Remembrance Grants
TITLE: City of Richmond, Virginia, RVA 2012 Remembrance and Service Project SUMMARY INFORMATION: The project will include: (1) a remembrance ceremony; (2) a stair climb by first responders; (3) assembly and donation of 500 care packages to the United Service Organization (USO) at Ft. Lee for distribution to deployed military; (4) assembly and distribution of 500 veteran support kits to veterans, to include information about veteran services -- 400 will be donated for distribution USO through Ft. Lee and 100 will be distributed by volunteers at Richmond homeless shelters; (5) disaster preparedness training to include distribution of disaster supplies starter kits to 250 trainees and assembly and distribution of 500 basic emergency kits to area households (6) weatherization assistance for active military and veteran households located in Richmond, VA; (7) and increasing the number of Richmond veterans and military families engaged in volunteer service projects. Although the activities will take place in Richmond, the target communities of project activities include deployed active duty military from across the country, returning veterans; Richmond area families of active and veterans service members, Richmond area homeless veterans, and first responders from Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina. At least 2,350 individuals will be served and over 500 volunteers will be engaged.
