Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County Indiana, Inc
FY 2012 National Day of Service and Remembrance Grants
TITLE: Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County SUMMARY: We propose to expand the capacity of Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Indiana by implementing a service learning and community service project program. All 88 Club locations throughout Indiana are eligible to participate. We will implement projects that directly relate to the September 11th Day of Service event with a kick off utilizing the "New York Says Thank You" documentary that details the great service that has occurred since 9-11. We propose to utilize a sub-grant model with a goal of 40 sub-grantees that can request up to $2000 to conduct service projects within their Club and community that focus on community needs and issues. In addition to the sub-grants, we will also include extensive training to assist in volunteer recruitment and management efforts. In conjunction with an existing grant from Indiana ADA, we will also develop and implement a recruitment effort that focuses on those individuals with disabilities. We will also develop lists of accommodations that volunteers and youth could utilize if needed to participate in the programming. We will focus on the national performance measures that will count the numbers of volunteers recruited and managed by our projects. The secondary measure will focus on how many youth that participate in our service-learning projects will demonstrate improved academic engagement as measured by a research based survey tool.
