Tenacity's mission is to improve the scholastic, character, physical and life-skills development of youth through academic support and tennis instruction/competition. Since 1999, Tenacity has served over 30,000 Boston and Worcester youth through a deep and authentic relationship with the Boston Public Schools and Boston and Worcester Parks and Recreation departments, in our after-school, in-school and summer programs. Our intensive school-year pathway programs; Elementary, Middle School Academy, and College Prep and Alumni; provide a continuum of academic, literacy, life-skills and fitness/tennis programming, with the goal of developing the whole person and preparing youth for a positive school experience and post-secondary success. Tenacity's well-attended, city-wide Summer Tennis & Reading Program boosts fitness, literacy, and life-skill development while encouraging literacy retention throughout the summer. Over the past five years, in addition to paid staff, Tenacity has utilized more than 70 AmeriCorps members and hundreds of community volunteers to engage youth in fitness and academics through outreach, direct instruction and the power of positive role-modeling. Our programs, thirteen years in evolution, help at-risk youth realize their potential and address a gap in out-of-school programming. Our success is exceptional. More than 95% of students participating in our school-year pathway programming graduate from high-school, with 75% of them going on to college or other post-secondary programs. Tenacity's next goal is to extend that achievement - demonstrated success, for more than 75% of our pathway students, at in high school and beyond. With enhancements to Tenacity's pathway, we plan that our students will not only be prepared to graduate from high school and attempt higher-learning, but will also succeed in and complete a serious, post secondary pursuit.
