Indiana Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity of Indiana requests 12 AmeriCorps members that will leverage an additional 5000 volunteers to build or renovate housing for low income families in Indiana. Habitat will finance these homes for those families at 0% interest to ensure long term affordability. Seven AmeriCorps members will serve in full time capacities at Habitat affiliates under four umbrellas: Volunteer coordination, family services, construction or capacity building. In addition, 5 AmeriCorps members will serve on the A-Team that will be based in southern Indiana. They will travel to small affiliates for 1-2 weeks at a time to lead major builds or events, thus increasing capacity in rural areas. The remainder of their service will be spent in an urban setting leading rehab and weatherization projects. From September 2012 to August 2013, we anticipate 500 low income individuals will receive housing services through AmeriCorps and 400 low income individuals will move into 100 completed affordable housing units under the CNCS focus area of Economic Opportunity. The CNCS investment of $154,422 will be matched with $186,799 from Habitat Indiana.
