The College of New Jersey
Commission AmeriCorps State FY 2012
The NJ Bonner AmeriCorps Program mobilizes the talents of college students and community members, the resources of institutions of higher education, and the expertise of nonprofit organizations to address critical community needs in Mercer and Middlesex counties in New Jersey. Eighty-one AmeriCorps members will provide services related to education, economic opportunity and healthy futures (focus areas outlined in the Corporation's Strategic Plan). Members will provide academic support to disadvantaged youth, offer job training and other skill development services to un - and underemployed persons, and help individuals increase their food security. In addition, Members will mobilize 500 volunteers to serve alongside them at their service sites. At the end of the three year project period of 9/1/12 - 8/31/15, we anticipate that 50% of youth will demonstrate improved academic performance in literacy, 30% of individuals receiving job training will be placed in jobs, 50% of GED program participants will receive their GED and 60% of participants will report increased food security.
