Commission AmeriCorps State FY 2012
Thirty-five AmeriCorps Members, with a total of 25 Member Service Years (MSY), will engage youth aged 10-21 from disadvantaged circumstances, and Veterans and Military Families in afterschool programming, volunteer opportunities, and intergenerational activities in Orange County. Geographic emphases for programs are the Cities of Newburgh, Middletown and Port Jervis, as well as the seven rural school districts of: Valley Central, Pine Bush, Monroe, Warwick, Greenwood Lake, Highland Falls, and Chester. At the end of the three-year Orange County AmeriCorps Project (OCAP), 2,214 youth, Veterans or Military Family Members will have been served in programs that increase school and community connectedness and success. Five Orange County organizations will have increased capacity to effectively recruit and manage volunteers to meet community and organizational needs. This project will focus on the CNCS focus areas of Education, Veterans and Military Families, and Capacity Building. The CNCS investment amount of $399,730 will be matched with $ 181,365 local funds.
