Beginning July 2012, Hands On Atlanta (HOA) will sponsor 125 full-time AmeriCorps members to support existing whole-school reform efforts in the Atlanta Public Schools System (APS). Members will serve as trained tutors, equipped with evidence-based learning models, for students across 35 Atlanta public schools, i.e., 18 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, and 11 high schools. By the end of the 2012-13 school year, HOA will: (a) tutor 672 elementary school students, 45% of whom will achieve quarterly reading mastery levels; (b) tutor 244 middle school students in appropriate math modules, 50% of whom will demonstrate significant improvement; (c) serve 432 elementary school students in the After-School Enrichment Program, 60% of whom will demonstrate increased school engagement and 45% improved reading proficiency; (d) provide college readiness services to 660 high school students, with 70% of the 9th and 10th grade students signing the Project Graduation Really Achieves Dreams (Project GRAD) covenant and 70% of 11th and 12th grade students submitting at least one college application. The CNCS investment of $1,540,000 will be matched with $1,581,502.
