SouthEast Alaska Guidance Association (SAGA)
SAGA's Alaska Service Corps program incorporates disadvantaged Alaskan youth (17 -- 24 years of age) into our Summer-season crews (June -- August) and young adults (18 -- 25 years of age) into our Full-season crews (June -- October). This program has been in operation for 25 years. Our Alaska Service Corps program addresses two critical concerns in Alaska: backlogged public lands projects and a notable high school dropout rate. To do this we use public land projects with our Summer-season crews as service learning opportunities in safe environments; those same projects are the primary focus for our Full-season crews who provide national service to our public land management partners throughout the state. Our goal is to decrease the number of backlogged projects on public lands while reducing Alaska's high school dropout rate through service learning in safe learning environments.
