The goal of the Seniors Promoting Prevention program is to expand and sustain health promotion and disease prevention programs for older adults and adults with disabilities. Twenty full- and part-time AmeriCorps members who are 55 years or older will assist county aging units throughout Wisconsin to expand the evidence-based programs: Stepping On, a falls prevention program and Living Well with Chronic Conditions, a chronic disease self-management program. AmeriCorps Members will assist with workshop coordination and recruit and supervise 1-3 older adult health promotion volunteers. Seniors Promoting Prevention program will start on September 1, 2012 and by the end of the three year project period, there will be an additional 120 Stepping On and Living Well workshops delivered with 1,000 additional older adults (defined by Older Americans Act as 60 and older) and adults with disabilities participating in the evidence-based health promotion programs. This project will focus on the CNCS focus area of healthy futures and capacity building. The CNCS investment of $159,026 will be matched with $332,789.
