Wisconsin Early Childhood Association
Commission AmeriCorps State FY 2012
Our program will improve the education of child care providers, offer skill development opportunities to Corps members, and boost the quality of Milwaukee area child care centers. Twenty AmeriCorps members will provide consistent, affordable coverage for staff who must take time off of work to complete college courses. Corps members will learn about early education through trainings, an accelerated college course, and direct experience. Corps members will complete projects to improve the social-emotional development of children attending their host center. Corps members will participate in these activities while also leveraging an additional 100 volunteers to create high-quality early learning experiences for young children in the Milwaukee Area.
Between September 2012 and August 2013, 40 child care providers will complete 140 college credits and 1,000 children will demonstrate gains in social-emotional development. The project will focus on the CNCS focus area of Education. The CNCS investment of $266,000 will be matched with $215,389.
