PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: In an effort to address the needs of residents living in low income housing and across the reservation, Blackfeet Housing Authority (BHA) on behalf of the Blackfeet Tribe has evaluated and identified a planning project to bridge the gap in the area of opportunity and community service. The Blackfeet Tribe in partnership with the Blackfeet Housing Authority has developed a comprehensive volunteer program for youth and young adults seeking to learn new skills and improve community conditions. The project will focus on planning a successful project for a future Opportunity grant. The program will be staffed by a Project Coordinator, who is responsible for planning activities for the Ameri-Corp Grant, assessing volunteer strengths, and collecting statistical data. The Coordinator will work closely with Blackfeet Housing and other community service organizations to determine which areas of the community would benefit from having AmeriCorp volunteers.
The planning grant will allow the Blackfeet Tribe and Blackfeet Housing to do the following:
* Contract necessary consultants to assist with the planning process
And identify projects.
* Compile community needs-related information to assist with
designing the program.
* Complete an organizational/community needs assessment.
* Develop community partnerships to help support the AmeriCorps Project
BUDGET REQUEST: Provide funding to initiate a planning project that will serve the local community in the coming years and provide additional programmatic expenses required to maintain a consistent planning program.
