Center for Workforce Development, Inc
The Center for Workforce Development (CWD) , a 501(c)3 based in Sterling, Virginia, was created in September of 2006 to provide and develop career opportunities for disadvantaged youth in disenfranchised communities throughout the United States. Our founder and staff are experts in training youth in workforce skills and in working with employers to hire youth who complete training programs. Our success rate is significant. In 2009, CWD concentrated on working with YouthBuild programs throughout the United States to improve their employment skills training and job placement skills. We trained over 100 programs across the country. Through our training, program staff gained clarity of what is needed for successful job placement and types of skills needed. The goal of the CWD planning grant, and ultimately the CWD National Direct AmeriCorps program, is to share our success with other youth serving organizations. Placement outcomes are one of the most important outcomes, and also one of the most difficult for programs to attain. When interviewing YouthBuild organizations for TA, we found that 90% felt their low employment/continuing education placement rates were the most critical area needing attention and support. CWD can offer that support, and increase the placement outcome attainment of the programs with whom we work.
