Utah Campus Compact
Utah Campus Compact, a statewide consortium of eleven universities and colleges, proposes to establish a new AmeriCorps Education Award Program that will involve 2,100 students each year, generate an additional 2,100 community volunteers, and provide over 1 million hours of service annually to community organizations in Utah. In the current recession, many nonprofits, schools, and governmental organizations have faced fiscal challenges which have impacted their ability to offer needed services to Utah communities. At the same time, many of these organizations have seen the demand for their services rise as increased unemployment and other economic factors have driven more people to seek help. Through the Utah Campus Compact AmeriCorps Education Award Program, students at nine colleges and universities in the state will provide support to hundreds of community organizations through direct service and volunteer recruitment, thereby increasing capacity for organizations to continue providing much-needed services in the areas of education, veteran support, healthy futures, economic opportunity, and environmental stewardship. In addition, participation in the Utah Campus Compact AmeriCorps Education Award Program will provide students with over $3 million in education awards each year to help support them as they complete their educational goals.
