Catholic Charities USA
Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) is the national office for more than 1700 local Catholic Charities offices and institutions nationwide. CCUSA provides leadership and support to enhance the work of local agencies in their efforts to reduce poverty, support families and empower communities. For more than 280 years, local Catholic Charities have been providing vital social services in their communities, ranging from day care and counseling to food and housing, distinguishing themselves as the go-to source for quality social service to low-income and marginalized populations.
In 2007 CCUSA launched its multi-tiered Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America, the goal of which is to cut poverty in the U.S. in half by the year 2020. As the national voice for the Catholic Charities movement in this country, CCUSA not only calls on the government to do more to assist those who are poor, but also identifies and promotes evidence based asset development programs for replication, helping local Catholic Charities agencies move beyond their traditional role of providing a safety net to those in need. It is in this spirit that CCUSA is happy to lead a consortium of four of its member agencies, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, Catholic Charities, Inc. (Wichita), Catholic Charities Inc., Diocese of Jackson (MS) and Catholic Charities Community Services, Archdiocese of New York, in pursuit of a 2011 Full-time Fixed-amount Multi-State AmeriCorps Grant.
CCUSA hopes that the energy, enthusiasm and expertise of AmeriCorps members and the volunteers they will coordinate, working in local Catholic Charities agencies can be utilized in 2011 and beyond to assist low-income children and adults in accessing the specific assistance that meets their immediate need and moves them to self-sufficiency. For this reason CCUSA respectfully requests $276,000 in federal funds to support the development of a multi-state AmeriCorps program.
