Executive Summary

Grassroots Initiative 3.0, by the South Shore GRANTS Center 2400 New York Ave. Suite 607, Whiting, IN 46394-2146

Fiscal Agent: Workforce Development Services, Inc., Gary, IN, Matching Dollars $200,000 Cash, Match Fiscal Agent: Porter County Community Foundation (PCCF)

Core Competencies: South Shore GRANTS Center (SSGC) delivers nonprofit management training, board development training, and administrative programs to improve the quality and operational efficiency of local nonprofits.

The service delivery area would coincide with Economic Development Region1 (EGR-1) of Indiana includes Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, Jasper, Starke and Pulaski.

SSGC is an Indiana nonprofit corporation in its ninth year of operation. SSGC serves as the operational contractor to IUN CURE Non-Profit Institute. It is also an agent grantor to small nonprofits through a donor designated fund to underwrite grant writing services and provide financial assistance to emerging and promising nonprofits in the community.

The desire of the NPI is to improve the performance and quality of the services provided by the nonprofits to the community. Onsite services and grant writing services, as well as management development programs are delivered as a fee-for-service program and utilize university faculty and local practitioners and consultants to deliver the desired services. South Shore GRANTS Center will be the lead intermediary for this grant. Participating nonprofits are mostly concentrated in serving youth, veterans, disabled, low moderate income, homeless and providing job training services.

This grant would expand our current Grassroots Initiative outreach to a wider area and touch more nonprofits in ways that will assist them in producing a sustainability plan, funding a resource development, and ongoing evaluation and modification to achieve success.
