Executive Summary

Dr. Brenda Belmont is the executive director of the Gilmore Memorial Preschool, Inc. (GMP) a ten-year-old (501) (c) (3) not-for-profit, community based institution in Paterson, New Jersey and is recognized as a high achieving NAEYC accredited full-day preschool. GMP is proposing to collaborate with three high-quality preschool not-for-profit centers to help a minimum 550+ students from Paterson to overcome the difficult transition from pre-kindergarten to high school.

All three centers strongly believes that its mission is to provide low cost day care services and an early childhood educational program for pre-school children ,provide educational opportunities and facilities including child care for preschoolers and after-school programs.

The mission of the proposed collaborative early childhood programs (PCECP) is to provide a learning environment, which integrates music and movement, as well as technological literacy with academic excellence. The programs will provide the students with a thorough and applicable knowledge of the core curriculum, by associating academic instruction with analogous concepts in music, movement, and technological literacy, regardless of student's musical aptitude or experience, and by striving to create a learning environment facilitating the highest standards of academic achievement for its students. Apart from academic excellence, a major requirement of every student is overall happiness and quality of life. The PCECP believes that successful students are clearer about their objectives, talents, interests, and capabilities. PCECP will not restrict or define success only to academic excellence because it understands that academic excellence is more than just making good grades; it is the maximum development of intellectual capacities and skills in service to the immediate community and humanity at large. Consequently, to achieve the mission and the objectives, PCECP is requesting for the grant of $568,000 per year.
