Michigan Association of Public School Academies
Nonprofit Capacity Building Program 2011
Michigan Association of Public School Academies (MAPSA)
Michigan Association of Public School Academies, Lansing, MI
MAPSA is proposing a Nonprofit Capacity Building Program grant to serve small to midsize non-profit charter schools in the state of Michigan. Currently, 78 charter schools meet the MAPSA definition of small to midsize. MAPSA will select 20-30 schools based on need as measured by student achievement and readiness to make change or participate in innovation. MAPSA is requesting $284,541 in Federal dollar-for-dollar matching funds to achieve the following goals:
(1) Increase performance as measured by MAPSA's School Quality Indicators;
(2) Increase academic achievement for all students; and
(3) Improve efficiency, culture and sustainability through the implementation of a Performance Management System.
Each participating school will be assigned a Quality School Facilitator. The facilitator will meet with participants on a monthly basis, either by site visit or webinar, to provide focused professional development that reflects individual school needs in meeting School Quality Indicators and creating and maintaining a Performance Management System. Participants will receive professional development in School Boards and Governance, Educational Program Development and Assessment, School Culture and Human Capital, Data Analysis and Management, and Legal Compliance and Operations. In addition, schools will have access to Orange Grove, a web-based performance management system. Orange Grove allows schools to load student, classroom, school and state level data to measure and track performance. Interim and final evaluations will include an analysis on school specific data to reflect the growth in progress towards closing the achievement gap in student proficiency.
