North Carolina Center for Nonprofit Organzations, Inc.
Nonprofit Capacity Building Program 2011
North Carolina Center for Nonprofit Organizations, Inc.
The N.C. Center for Nonprofits (Center) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Raleigh, NC. It serves 501(c)(3) nonprofits in all 100 NC counties. About 95% of its members are small/midsize nonprofits with annual budgets under $5 million. The Center seeks a $200,000 grant.
We propose the Sustainable Nonprofit Program (Program) to provide training and technical assistance to 15-30 small/midsize NC nonprofits to help them develop performance management systems through our existing "Principles & Practices for Nonprofit Excellence: A Self-Help Tool for Organizational Effectiveness" (P&P). The Program will serve nonprofits throughout NC, with a particular focus on those in Tier 1 counties (the 40 most distressed counties based on the NC Department of Commerce's annual ranking of economic well-being) and Tier 2 (the next 40) counties.
The Center will select nonprofits to participate in the Program (Participants) using a competitive process based on:
-Qualification as small/midsize nonprofits providing services aligned with the Corporation's priorities.
-Willingness and capacity to participate fully.
-Challenges in resources for sustainability and expansion of services.
-Capacity to implement a performance management system during the two-year period.
-Geographic area (priority to Tiers 1 and 2 counties).
We will offer training and technical assistance to Participants' staff and board members, including:
-Five in-person workshops on specific areas of organizational effectiveness and performance management.
-Bimonthly webinars on the 11 benchmarks in P&P.
-Peer-to-peer learning through in-person meetings, conference calls, and a listserv.
-Ongoing technical assistance.
-Access to pro bono professional services.
-Individual consultations as needed.
Additional nonprofits will have access to training and technical assistance, so the Program will serve 100-150 other nonprofits.
