Commission AmeriCorps State FY 2011
The Mississippi Center for Community & Civic Engagement (CCCE) proposes a Campus Link (CL) AmeriCorps (AC) project that will provide Mississippi higher education institutions and nonprofits with AmeriCorps Teams that will provide tutoring to at-risk middle school students in order to decrease dropout rates and increase success in school among these students. Campus Link will utilize 15 full-time members and 65 minimum time members by placing them in middles schools in three different counties with high dropout rates: Forrest, Marshall, and Hinds. The overall changes desired by the end of the three-year grant cycle are to 1) improve academic abilities of middle school students; 2) increase promotion to the next grade level; and, 3) increase readiness for high school and beyond by modeling and teaching leadership development and life skills management.
