The NM State Parks Division (State Parks) has identified the AmeriCorps Program as a means to support State Park education, resource protection and veteran needs statewide. Through this program State Parks intends to increase opportunities for local communities, support rural and economically challenged areas and build sustainable programs to address problem areas for communities and for parks. AmeriCorps will reach 12 State Parks and nine NM counties.
Three program areas are proposed to be addressed by AmeriCorps members: 1) The Statewide Outdoor Classroom Program (OCP); 2) the resource protection program, particularly Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS); and, 3) veterans programming. State Parks is requesting funding for five half-time, seven reduced half-time and six quarter-time AmeriCorps members, with allowance and personnel support to build the AmeriCorps Program. It would also include one half-time, five quarter-time, and fifteen minimum-time members, without allowance.
