University of Notre Dame
Commission AmeriCorps State FY 2011
The Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) is an initiative of the University of Notre Dame in partnership with South Bend's Northeast Neighborhood. Most participants are minority, low-income youth. The RCLC offers a multi-faceted approach to providing youth with educational support and a healthy community. Programs include tutoring, conflict resolution, and entrepreneurship. The RCLC receives volunteer resources and partial financial support from Notre Dame but future development is constrained by limited funding. The need for comprehensive programming is outstripping availability of services. The RCLC is requesting six full-time and twelve half-time AmeriCorps members to be charged with recruiting volunteers, expanding outreach, and developing curricula to respond to community needs. The overarching RCLC goal is to improve educational outcomes, particularly for those in poverty. AmeriCorps members will support this goal by coordinating a range of educational programs.
