10/27/2009 National Service Agency Announces Funding to Engage Students in Service-Learning
  The Corporation for National and Community Service has released a funding notice for its 2010 Learn and Serve America “Summer of Service” grants competition, implementing a new program authorized under the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. The new grant funding – totaling $1 million dollars – will support innovative summer-time service-learning programs for students grades 6 through 9.

  Stephen Goldsmith, Interim Board Chair of the Corporation for National and Community Service, participated in a panel discussion at the Hudson Institute today on the Social Innovation Fund (SIF) authorized under the Edward M. Kenney Serve America Act.

10/17/2009 Successful Kick-off of Learn & Serve Challenge Opens Year of Service for Schools & Communities
  Nearly 80,000 students, parents and teachers from across 34 states participated in 178 events that marked the close of the week-long launch of the 3rd Annual Learn & Serve Challenge. The Challenge, led by the Corporation for National and Community Service and 100 national organizations, will continue through the remainder of the school year with the goal of engaging 1 million more students in service-learning.

  Today, the Corporation for National and Community Service announced key changes to the planning grants designed to assist local, regional, and national organizations and Indian Tribes in developing new AmeriCorps programs.

10/7/2009 AmeriCorps NCCC Team Leaders to Assist In Tsunami-Ravaged American Samoa
  Twenty-one AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) team leaders will hit the ground today to provide disaster relief assistance to the tsunami-devastated Territory of American Samoa. The group will be deployed on a three-week assignment to assist the American Red Cross with mass care and their shelter operations.

10/6/2009 AmeriCorps NCCC Team Assists in Atlanta Flood Recovery Efforts
  A team of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) members arrived in Atlanta, Georgia, to provide emergency assistance to area flood victims and help rebuild the flood-stricken city. The team members will spend the next three weeks removing debris, and cleaning and sanitizing damaged buildings to prevent mold.

  The Corporation for National and Community Service and more than 100 national service-learning leaders, educators, and community advocates partnered today to kick off the 3rd Annual National Learn & Serve Challenge.
